The Science Bit
Anaerobic Digestion (AD) - involves the breakdown of biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen by micro-organisms called methanogens. Food waste is mixed with animal manure to form a substrate which is pasteurised and passed into a fermenter.
Bacteria break the food waste down and the methane gas produced is converted into electricity for the National Grid. The remaining by-product, a liquid digestate, is an excellent organic fertiliser which is used on the land.
Eco-Eating will select the best AD plant for your site and your food waste, to minimise transport miles and carbon footprint. We’re the UK’s most established AD service, which means we can offer you a tried and tested routes to AD.
Eco- Eating the hall mark of impeccable green credentials.
